DBL Consulting Ltd – Helping Hertfordshire SMEs Survive and Thrive in Challenging Times

David Butler is a business coach on a mission to transform as many SMEs in Hertfordshire as possible. His business coaching programme is focused on helping entrepreneurs and their businesses get more customers and keep more customers thereby increasing their sales and income. This means they build the business of their dreams. Dave is the founder of DBL Consulting Ltd, a business coaching company based in Hertfordshire and he spoke to Herts Review about his plans and aspirations.
 
Dave is an Entrepreneurs Circle Certified Business Coach. Entrepreneurs Circle (EC) is national business coaching programme set up by serial entrepreneur Nigel Botterill. Nigel has built several multiple million £ businesses. His ideas, successes and failures has been packaged into the most successful business coaching programme in the UK that has transformed many SMEs nationwide. Dave is one of the many coaches trained by this programme and he is using these tried and tested strategies to help other businesses in Hertfordshire.
 
Although trained by EC, DBL Consulting Ltd is an independent coaching business operating from its base in Hemel Hempstead. “We are not a franchise of EC. We are affiliated with EC as we use their tried and tested strategies to help other businesses succeed. After all that was where I trained and those strategies work and produce great results. They have helped millions of businesses across the country. You only need to read the reviews online for confirmation”.
 
So how did Dave get into business coaching? “I spent 25 years in the corporate world in various roles in media companies and recruitment agencies. I worked in sales, held various senior sales roles, and even coached and mentored sales team. I also worked as a recruitment consultant so have good experience of 2 key aspects of running a business – getting the attention of the end user for your product or service (sales & marketing) and building teams to deliver the product or service (recruitment).
 
“I had always had that entrepreneurial bug. I was working for other companies, I enjoyed what I did but was not fulfilled. I just knew it was a matter of time”.  Dave had already started training as a coach earlier in the year, but the covid-19 lockdown sped up his business journey. “I was furloughed by the recruitment company I worked for and I think at that point the penny dropped for me. It was time to leave my comfort zone and go do what I had always wanted to do. Coaching brings all my skillset together. Sales, recruitment, and my strong desire to help people. Even in my corporate career I was utilizing these skillsets, so it was time to make that leap”.
 
DBL Consulting was set up 3 months ago and is already thriving. “I am focusing on Hertfordshire as it is an area I know really well. I have lived in Hertfordshire for a long time and know lots of people in the area. My mission is to focus here and help as many businesses as possible. These are really hard times for businesses with the lockdown earlier in the year in March and another one now. A lot of entrepreneurs may go out of business if they do not get the help they need. This help may not only be financial and that is why I am driven and passionate. I believe I can be that solution to get these businesses through this rough patch and put them back on the path of growth”.
 
Dave explains the interesting business journey of two types of entrepreneurs. “Some entrepreneurs get an idea of starting a business when they are working for other people. They learn that business really well and decide they can provide the same service better while making more money at the same time. Other entrepreneurs start businesses based on what they are good at. They have a clear understanding of how to create the product or service and assume that is all to running a business”.
 
“Few people take into account other aspects of the business – customer acquisition and retention, sales, logistics, recruiting & developing teams, creating processes and structures so they do not end up working in their business when they should be working on it. Usually they do not understand all the other aspects of running the business and so may find themselves in challenging situations in the latter years. The important thing is to figure out why they started the business, where they are now with the business and where they want to be”.
 
He continues “if you are not where you want to be and you continue doing what you have been doing for the last 5 to 10 years, nothing will change. I help business owners paint that picture of their business when it is successful and what it means to them and their family. More money, more time spent with family and all the other good stuff. Together, we work out their pain points and figure out simple steps they will take to make their business successful. They have to do the work though and be accountable to themselves. My role is to guide and support them through that journey.
 
With his company DBL Consulting, Dave is looking to work with ambitious and driven entrepreneurs that want to set and achieve their goals. “I am not restricted to any niche for now. Our coaching services are affordable and bring results. My plan is to find as many ambitious entrepreneurs in Hertfordshire as possible and work with them. In addition, we are building a team and developing other key services like sales training and recruitment for business owners so they can outsource aspects of their businesses they are not good at”
